Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia (Arabic: المملكة العربية السعودية‎) is the largest Arab country in the Middle East. It is bordered by Jordan and Iraq on the north and northeast, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates on the east, Oman on the southeast, and Yemen on the south. The Persian Gulf lies to the northeast and the Red Sea to its west. It has an estimated population of 28 million, and its size is approximately 2,149,690 square kilometres. The kingdom is sometimes called "The Land of the Two Holy Mosques" in reference to Mecca and Medina, the two holiest places in Islam. Saudi Arabia's government takes the form of an Islamic absolute monarchy.

Information

Saudi Arabia serves as the setting for the first mission in Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X, appropriately titled Drifting in Desert, specifically its capital, Riyadh (spelled in-game as Riad). Principal activities include commerce, gambling, and Iron Iso production. Shops and marketplaces abound as well.

The capital is defended by Arabians during the day, and by Rebel Infantry at night, bolstered with defenses such as the Mosque Artillery. Depending on the time of day, the Regular Army can be greeted either by the Keesi during sundown, or an Iron Nokana during daybreak while infiltrating the city.

Notes

  • In Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X, Saudi Arabia and Egypt were merged to form "Ajirabia", it is lakely a reference to the Ottoman Empire.
  • The large red banner (blue in Metal Slug X) seen in the background during the boss fight humorously translates to "I have diarrhea" in Arabic.
  • The main menu of Metal Slug Attack takes place at this stage.
