Niwara

Lieutenant Niwara was a female Caitian, reputed to be a loner, one of three field scouts assigned to the USS Sagittarius in the 2260s.

History

When the Sagittarius crashlanded on Jinoteur IV during its investigation of the Jinoteur system Niwara was paired with Ensign Vanessa Theriault in the crew's attempt to lure the approaching Shedai away from the ship. The two were separated in the ensuing attacks on the decoy teams, with Theriault falling down the edge of a ravine into a river and being swept away and Niwara escaping back to the ship.

She was later sent, along with ship's first officer Commander Clark Terrell, to mount a search and rescue operation for the missing ensign. After the two had only managed to find Theriault's communicator they made camp for the night, only to awaken to a surprise attack by the Shedai, who were now apparently able to shroud themselves from Starfleet sensors. Niwara managed to save Terrell's life by throwing him the signal dampener that would shroud him from the Shedai's perception, but she herself was stabbed to death. (VAN novel: Reap the Whirlwind)
