Fly

A fly was a type of animal lifeform, an insect. While commonly known fly species are native to the planet Earth, many other extraterrestrial varieties of flies have been known to exist.

After the destruction of New York City during World War III, the corpses of dead people were swarming with flies. (ST short story: "The Immortality Blues")

Q once turned Jean-Luc Picard into a fly, in order to unobtrusively watch the events of an alternate timeline (in a literal example of the human phrase "a fly on the wall"). (TNG - Annual comic: "The Gift")
