In an alternate reality, the Durlans were a civilization of sentient shapeshifter lifeforms, originating on homeworld Durla. In this reality, the Durlans' natural ability to change shape was recognized, and sometimes feared, throughout the galaxy. In their natural state, the Durlans resemble nothing more than a mass of tentacles. They usually wear a simple shawl or cloak as clothing to protect themselves from the elements. When Durlans shape-shift intending to mimic a humanoid form, they usually appear as a yellow-skinned figure without body hair, with two antennae protruding from the scalp.
By this reality's 30th century, the Durlans were allied with the United Planets. Notable Durlans include Reep Daggle, who was sponsored into the Legion of Super-Heroes to use his abilities for the good of the galaxy.
In another reality created by a time-distortion, the Durlans were enemies of the Imperial Planets, a 23rd century organization with an agenda of galactic oppression and domination. (TOS - Legion of Super-Heroes comic: "Issue 1")
- The Legion's universe became crossed with the Star Trek universe due to a time distortion, so it is not clear if there is a Star Trek universe version of the Durlans.
