Dracula

Dracula was a novel by Human author Bram Stoker, first published on Earth in the year 1897. Dracula's title character is a vampire named Count Dracula, and both book and character became the basis and inspiration for numerous other literature and movies in the horror genre for years to follow.

Legacy

Captain James T. Kirk recalled reading Dracula as a young boy, and being particularly frightened by the title character. In 2269, when Kirk met the vampire-like Ambassador Damu of Chiroptera, he recalled some of that fear. (TOS novel: Death's Angel)

In 2270, Yoshi Takhumara read a passage from Dracula, Chapter 2 from a copy of the novel owned by Lara Krovozhadny: "I was indeed awake and among the Carpathians. All I could do now was to be patient, and to wait the coming of the morning." Shortly afterward, both died on Tanis. (TOS novel: Bloodthirst)

Lieutenant T'Ryssa Chen was familiar with the Dracula story, and referenced the character during a dream about her confrontation with the Borg in 2380. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)
