A comb was a device used to straighten and maintain hair for personal grooming or the care of animals. Usually a simple material arranged in a series of bristles, comb-like contrivances are usually among the early use of tools by evolving races and cultures.
In 2371, the Galactic Pets Unlimited located on Deep Space 9 was offering free combs with purchase of certain animals. (DS9 comic: "Images")
