Chu-sa

Chu-sa was a 23rd century member of Starfleet, an individual of an avianoid race who served on the Federation starship USS Surak in the late 23rd century under the command of Captain Spock.

Biography

Chu-sa was a medical doctor, and the chief medical officer of the Surak. (ST - Who's Who in Star Trek comic: "Issue 2")

In 2285, during the ship's visit to Proto, Chu-sa, Brinks, and Spock became trapped in a dream state. After willing himself awake, Spock mind melded with Chu-sa. In the dream, Chu-sa flew with the large, green wings of the doctor's ancestors. Chu-sa retreated, refusing to give up the gift of flight. Spock levitated in pursuit, and was able to pull Chu-sa out of a sudden whirlwind. Chu-sa awakened after being medically dead for about 90 seconds. (TOS comic: "Dreamworld")

Chu-sa joined the landing party on Verdee and fought against a team of Romulans. (TOS comic: "The Trouble with Transporters!")

When the Surak encountered a class VI Aakenn-class freighter, Spock asked Chu-sa to join the landing party. The doctor observed that the vessel's Tellarite crew seemed to have been in great pain when they died. Together they found a lone Andorian survivor. Back in Surak's sickbay, Chu-sa diagnosed him as having extreme hysteria, but was unable to locate any sort of pathogen to show what killed the Tellarites. Before the bodies could be beamed aboard for him to autopsy, the freighter self destructed. Not long after, Chu-sa examined Ensign Singer, who'd collapsed on the bridge. Moments later, Chu-sa also felt faint, then died. (TOS - The Doomsday Bug! comic: "Death Ship!")

Chu-sa was awarded posthumous honors and listed as having died in the line of duty. (ST - Who's Who in Star Trek comic: "Issue 2")
