Benyan was a male Bajoran artist and husband to Cerin Mika. He, along with his wife, were religious radicals and joined the Cult of the Pah-wraiths led by Gul Skrain Dukat. They were among the cultists who followed Dukat to Empok Nor.
Benyan and Mika were the first couple to be "blessed" by Dukat with permission to have children and began trying to conceive. These efforts however, were undone when Dukat raped and impregnated Mika with a daughter he and Mika named Cerin.
Though he was initially reluctant, he began to see the baby girl as his more than Dukat's and was outraged Dukat tried to kill Mika and nearly tricked him into poisoning baby Cerin with promazine. This led the cult to disband and leave for Bajor. (DS9 episode: "Covenant")
One year later, Benyan had accepted his role as Cerin's adopted father and cared for her along with Mika. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Cathedral)
