A rind or peel was the outer skin of a fruit. Removing this skin was called peeling.

In 2371, Deral advised Jadzia Dax on how to eat a fruit on Meridian, saying, "The trick is to scoop out the pulp and eat the thin layer inside the rind." (DS9: "Meridian")
