Summary
Background information
- On 28 March 2023, the fifth season was announced. [1]
- On 12 April 2024, it was announced that the fifth season would be the final season. [2]
- Mike McMahan stated in an interview with The 'Verse podcast that Season 5 was written with the intention of setting up possible future projects, saying, "The ending of season 5 it is the ending of a chapter that I knew I wanted to do. There are things that happen in it... I'm being very careful... that are sort of setting up spinoffs and setting up backdoor pilots. There's characters I'm introducing that you'll see clearly I wanted to do more with." [3]
- Gabrielle Ruiz remarked on the upcoming season in an episode of TrekCulture, saying, "The guest star list is sick, okay. The people that are coming in that said yes to do it... [squeals]. I’m just squealing for everybody to find out. And then there’s some additional good girl hang again with T’Lyn and Mariner and Tendi. They let us have that again in a very, very different situation. And I think that episode – it all happens in that same episode, and I can’t wait for that specific episode to air because I think it’s the best one. It’s written the best, the guest star list is the best, the dynamic of us trio [of] girls doing the thing is so much fun." [4]
- Despite T'Lyn being a regular character, Ruiz remained listed among the guest cast rather than being promoted to the opening credits listing; in the other direction, Vigman and Tatasciore remained credited in the opening despite being absent from a number of episodes.
- Aside from the annual addition of more ships to the opening credits "Borg cube battle" sequence, the show's title logo underwent a slight revision that some commentators compared to the change made to the logo of Star Trek: The Next Generation for its final season.
