Maizu Zora, known in Japanese as Maizuru Oozora (大空マイヅル Oozora Maizuru), is a character from Medabots Spirit.
Dr. Maizu used to be a kind scientist that worked on the Medabot Corporation, and he taught his son, Zuru Zora, that "Medabots are our friends" ("winning isn't everything" in the English dub). However, Dr. Maizu believed that kids would prefer powerful Medabots over friendlier ones. This made him consider that Dr. Aki was limiting the potential of their products, thinking that downgrading the Medals released to the public pointless, and that they should be like the First Medals, exact copies of the Rare Medals capable of using the Medaforce.[1] Dr. Maizu also developed Arcbeetle Dash and Tyrelbeetle, but they were considered too strong to be released at the time, with Dr. Aki being concerned about the safety of the children.[2] Dr. Maizu left the company and joined in the development of Kilobots, believing that kids would prefer superior products with more power, and he got immersed on his research, neglecting his wife and son. This change of heart made his son hate Kilobots, secretly becoming the Mystery Medafighter to destroy them.[3]
Coincidentally, while Dr. Maizu worked for the Medabot Corporation, he accidentally ruined a painting from Ginkai and gave him a First Medal as an apologie, which Ginkai would later use on Arcbeetle Dash. Also, Zuru would obtain Tyrelbeetle, and his Roks has a First Medal that he received from his father.
After Nae talked with Dr. Maizu about his past and present actions and he watched a Robattle between a Medafighter and a Rogue Medafighter, Dr. Maizu realized he was forgeting something important, but could not tell what. When Dr. Maizu discovered that Zuru was the Mystery Medafighter, the reason Zuru hated Kilobots, and seeing Kam misusing Gryphon, the strongest Kilobot so far, against his son, Dr. Maizu remembered what he said to his son and noticed that what he was doing was not the best for kids, and helped Zuru by revealing a weakness the incomplete Gryphon had at the time. Dr. Maizu then talks with his son and apologizes, stopping to work on Kilobots.[4] He also tried to stop Gryphon's development, without success.[5]
