History
After securing Deadly Hammer's severed right hand for his ritual, Chieftain Xin created several masks for himself and the Qilin Riders to destroy Zheng Zu's bloodline. When the Jade Emperor summoned Xin to the Jade Palace to explain the presence of Shang-Chi and his siblings in Ta-Lo, Xin took a couple masks for himself and his Qilin Junjie while giving the rest to the Qilin Riders. When the Jade Emperor ordered Xin to be imprisoned for breaking his oath to keep outsiders out of Ta-Lo, Xin put masks on himself and Junjie, granting them enhanced strength to overpower the Emperor and his guards.[1]
When the Qilin Riders fought the Five Weapons Society and Jiang Li at the House of the Deadly Hand, the Riders put the masks on themselves and their Qilin.[1]Properties
Taotie Masks are created similarly to their namesake, in which they are created from blood of a target that is poured into a mystical bronze cauldron, or ding [鼎]. However, larger quantities of blood and pieces of flesh instead produce Taotie Masks, when worn grants the user superhuman strength, durability and stamina and leaves them in a berserker-like state that makes them only think of revenge against the person whose blood was used to create the masks. The powers granted by the masks are enough to even eclipse the godlike Xian. Humans under the influence of a mask gain increased muscle mass while a Qilin's green skin turns red.[1]
