History
Sierra Angeles was a remote region[1][2] in the interior[2] of small Latin American country Bosqueverde.[1][2] It had a triple canopy forest and jungles, and wildlife included edible deers and possible jaguars.[2]
When the Spanish colonized the territory later known as Bosqueverde, they killed the indigenous Warao or displaced them to Sierra Angeles so that the Spanish could build the settlement Ciudad Leando along the Bosque River.[1]
In recent times, when dictator General Hector Carranza of the Republic of Bosqueverde was deposed in a bloodless coup, he was forced to flee into Sierra Angeles. Carranza had been involved in organized crime, including drug smuggling, and continued these activities in Sierra Angeles,[1] traveling to other places in the process.[3] Carranza was later arrested by the U.S. DEA and taken to Florida to be tried, but escaped on a cargo plane,[3][1] in a bloody operation and attracting the attention of vigilante Punisher.[4][2] After two months,[2] he returned to Bosqueverde, where he turned himself to the national authorities to stand trial there,[2][1] as he was able to influence the Bosqueverden judicial system. Greeted with cheers from his compatriots, Carranza was immediately transferred to a prison compound in Sierra Angeles, surrounded by all kinds of luxuries as long as he did not leave the area so as not to attract attention. Carranza had one hundred trained soldiers guard the jungle around the building, to deter new foreign military interventions by executing any intruders; and he also put pressure on the authorities to avoid his extradition. When the Americans threatened to cut off foreign aid, Carranza convinced the authorities that he would cover the costs with profits from his illegal cocaine trade. Carranza intended to remain hidden in prison for several months until international attention forgot his name, after which he could travel to Europe if he wished; but as long as his name was in the headlines, he could not afford to leave the building. The building however allowed him to be accompanied by women of dubious morals, associated military officers and agents such as Porquito and Rafito, who attended to his needs.[2]
The Punisher saw on television where Carranza was, and traveled illegally to Bosqueverde to kill him.[2][1] When the Punisher eliminated several men in the western barracks, in the Sierra Angeles jungle, Carranza was informed through his loyal officer Bene. Deciding that this intruder could not be from an official United States agency,[2] Carranza hired the elite unit of the Bosqueverde Army, Red Condors, to protect him for three million dollars;[2][1] Carranza sent the Condors a map of the area and the last location of the target.[2] The Condors went to the jungles in Sierra Angeles by chopper, then used a bomb on a bridge against the Punisher; they managed to leave him injured, temporarily deaf, and on a river where they could find him next.[2] Two Condors went after the Punisher, but the Punisher killed one of them with a knife. The other one Manuel report to Carranza about the attacker. Carranza recognized the Punisher from Miami.[5]
The Punisher then eliminated the other Condors one by one,[1] tying one of them to a tree and torturing him as a bait for the others. He also baited them using Reynardo's radio; Ramirez ordered radio silence so as to not reveal their position, unaware that the Punisher could not hear them. When one Condor tried to help his peer, he was immediately shot when he moved. The Punisher then killed another one. With only two Condors (Ramirez and Manuel) were left standing, Manuel wanted to leave; Ramirez told him that they were enough to beat the Punisher, and also revealed that the payment was far more than Manuel had thought. Manuel was angry at Ramirez's greed, and then Punisher shot Manuel dead. Immediately after that, the Punisher shot Ramirez's weapon to break it. Ramirez tried to escape and asked the helicopter for retrieval, but was then caught and killed by the Punisher.[5]
The Punisher then impersonated Ramirez to hijack the helicopter. With only partial information, Carranza mistakenly believed that Ramirez had taken out his enemy. Carranza ordered to celebrate the victory by having Porquito serve beer to the attendees, and Scotch to Carranza. Carranza began a speech about how he would build a new criminal empire as soon as he could leave prison, to obtain fortune for himself and his associates. Behind him, Punisher approached the helicopter to the building to crash it without him seeing it, but scaring the others present who saw him through the window.[5] Punisher rammed the building with the chopper, killing Carranza[5][1] witnessed by some guests who survived him.[5]Points of Interest
