Kwarrai

No survivors of the earthquake that ravaged the small South African nation of Kwarrai--

—TV newscaster

History

Kwarrai was a small country in southern Africa,[1] bordering the Indian Ocean to the east, Mozambique to the north, Swaziland and South Africa to the west, and South Africa to the south.[1] Kwarrai was a technologically-advanced country where a local respected scientist worked with radioactive Vibranium in his laboratory - but the scientist's daughter, Shara, was accidentally exposed to it. The effect of the radiation left Shara in a wheelchair and suffering from a terminal illness. Kwarrai did not have the skills to analyze the ailment, much less find a cure, so Shara was sent to Hammond Labs Facility, in Springdale, Connecticut, where Dr. Nicholas Benson would do whatever he could for her. Benson was, however, pessimistic and, after conducting experiments, decided that if they did not find a cure soon, they would send Shara back to Kwarrai to spend her final days with her family.[2]

A few weeks later, before Benson gave up, an earthquake devastated Kwarrai, leaving no survivors, an event so important that it was broadcast on television in the United States. Upon learning of this, Shara went crazy and discovered that she had access to superhuman powers related to Vibranium. She used her newfound powers to break out of Hammond Labs, injuring Benson, and then to destroy a quarry so that she could express her aggression without hurting anyone. However, seeing some children who had entered there, Shara redirected her powers to protect them, but in the process she herself was buried alive and killed by her own stones. The news would posthumously nickname her Vibrania.[2]

Trivia

The news about the earthquake on television was not heard completely. The earthquake is confirmed to have killed Shara's family,[2] but it is unclear whether or not it killed all of Kwarrai's inhabitants in the country (although Kwarraians outside of the country like Shara obviously survived).
