Elixir of Life

Drink. Drink deeply...and live forever.

Isaac Newton[source]

The Elixir of Life is a special elixir that extends a person's lifespan, granting them virtual immortality. In addition to the pure Elixir of Life, lesser versions of it, such as the Infinity Formula, were produced by the Brotherhood of the Shield as part of Isaac Newton's "Secret Alchemy."[5]

History

Candra used the Elixir of Life to greatly extend the normal lifespans of her servants (like Mercy LeBeau). Her formulation of the Elixir had the side-effect of rarely turning the drinker into a half-dead monster who craved additional doses.[6]

S.H.I.E.L.D. Vol 1 2 Nostradamus Variant Textless

In the 17th century, Sir Isaac Newton of the Brotherhood of the Shield discovered the "Secret Alchemy," the Elixir of Life, and hoarded it for himself. By diluting the Elixir, Newton also developed different variants of it that he called by different names depending on its potency (e.g. Infinity Formula). Slowly doling out the Elixir and its variants allowed Newton to buy loyalty from the other members of the Brotherhood. Newton chained Nostradamus in front of the Well of the Elixir of Life in order to pressure the seer into giving the prophecy Newton wanted. Newton used one of the lesser variants called the Forever Compound, which extended the body's life but offered little protection to the mind, to torture Nostradamus while the real Elixir was positioned in front of him. After three centuries, Newton allowed Nostradamus a sip of the real Elixir.[7] However, Newton eventually ran out of Elixir; thus, the Brotherhood's prolonged immortality ended.[8]

Zheng Zu used the "Elixir Vitae" which was created centuries earlier by his ancestor Shaka Kharn.[2] He gave it to at least two other individuals his elixir, his daughter Zheng Bao Yu and his loyal agent Ducharme.[9][10]
