An old woodcutter and his wife came across a giant peach, which they took home. Inside, they found a baby boy with a peach pit on one eye. When they removed the pit, the baby's eye erupted with a powerful red beam that punched a hole in the ceiling, so the woodcutter put the pit back. The boy Hitome grew into a young man and used his power to cut down trees as a woodcutter.

One day, he came across three armed bandits attempting to rob an old Monk. Hitome used his power to destroy their weapons, and the thieves fled for their lives, thinking him a demon. The old Monk told the boy of the demons who had captured the Emperor's Daughter and wanted Hitome to accompany him to find her. Hitome accompanied the Monk to find others to assist them, the blue monkey Aoi, the pheasant Tenshi, and the dog Kori, who each initially not wanted to help until Hitome's clever thinking convinced them to join the journey. At the demons' lair, Hitome, Aoi, Tenshi and Kori engaged them in battle while the Monk searched for the Emperor's Daughter. Once the battle was over, Kori and his friends reconvened with the Emperor's Daughter and the monk, who revealed himself as the Emperor. He apologized for his deception and requested them to become part of his royal guard, to which they all agreed.^[1]
