An Eagle who witnessed his family murdered as a chick befriended a Tortoise who grew up in a nurturing family but later became an outcast due to the "X" pattern on his shell. They formed an unlikely friendship and spend many joyous days together, but after being forced into violence to defend himself, the Eagle abandoned the Tortoise, believing it was best for him to live in solitude. The Tortoise did not give up on his friend and followed him to his nest, but the Eagle was angry at his friend, believing himself beyond redemption. The Eagle picked up the Tortoise and dropped him from a height, but the fall did not kill him though it still damaged the Tortoise's legs. The Tortoise still refused to condemn his friend, thanking him from not dropping him from a greater height and thus sparing his life, and the Eagle went his own way, amazed at his friend's foolishness.^[1]
