History

The Abyssi were created by the Builders to help them shape the universe. An Abyss accompanied an Ex Nihilii, as it was their job to judge the Gardener's work. An Aleph carried the eggs of one Ex Nihilii and one Abyss until it found a suitable environment to let them create life.[2]
Most of the Abyssi mysteriously died when the newuniversal structure was created. The Builders had recalled all the Ex Nihilii and forbade them from harvesting worlds; if the Abyssi had no work to judge, they had no purpose. However, the Abyss of Ex Nihilo survived since Ex Nihilo did not stop making Gardens.[1]
This race is now extinct, as the last of the Abyssi died in combat against the Beyonders.[3]Habitat

Notes
- Abyssi, alongside Ex Nihilii and Alephs, are considered older Builder systems compared to Starbrands, Nightmasks, and other products of a White Event.[4][5] It was because of these newer systems that the Ex Nihilii were recalled.[1]
- The Builders classify both created races like Ex Nihilii and Abyssi, as well as ascended individuals like Starbrands and Nightmasks, as "sentient systems" and "tools" of the Builders.[6]
