Item

Items are special power-ups in Mario Kart games. They are typically used to help the user, as weapons to attack other racers, or both.

Items differ in their likelihoods of obtainment depending on what place you are in until Mario Kart 8, where their likelihoods of being obtained are now determined by how far you are from the leader.

Standard Items

Standard items are those that are featured in most or all games. (In brackets are special notes about game absences or exclusiveness.) [In square brackets are the places you can get them in MK64 - if anyone has a MK7 sheet, replace this with the MK7 values.]:

• Banana [1st]
  • Triple Banana (absent from Super and Super Circuit; 5 in 64, 3 in all other games) [1st-2nd]
• Coin (absent from 64, Double Dash!! DS, and Wii; Also, only Super and 8 features the item in an Item Box)
• Fake Item Box (absent from Super, Super Circuit, 7, 8 and 8 Deluxe) [1st-2nd]

  • Triple Mushrooms (absent from Super and Super Circuit) [2nd-12th]

Items

This chart represents what items have been in the Mario Kart series.

• The Bob-omb was an item in Mario Kart 64, but you could not get it from item boxes.

• • Item appeared in Double Dash!! as a special item.

• • • The Coin was an item in Mario Kart 7, but you could not get it from item boxes.

• • • • In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Feather is only available in the Battle Mode.

• • • • • Mario Kart 64 was the only entry in the series including the Banana Bunch, five bananas behind eachother instead of three.

Lock-on shot	Targets an opponent with a reticle and homes in on them.
Shoots forward	Travels forward in a straight line.
Drops backward	Drops on the ground behind the kart.
Shoots backward	Travels backward in a straight line.

Melee	Attacks opponents at close range.
Status	Affects the user's kart.

Trivia!

• Out of every item in Mario Kart, six of them have appeared in every game. Those six items are the Banana, Green Shell, Lightning, Mushroom, Red Shell, and Star.
• Excluding the Arcade games and Mario Kart Tour, every game either has a Fake Item Box as an item or has collectible Coins.
