VB Mario Land

VB Mario Land is a canceled Mario game for the Virtual Boy starring Mario. It was supposedly to be a follow-up of Super Mario Land or Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins in the same way that the released Virtual Boy Wario Land follows after Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. VB Mario Land was likely canceled because its system, the Virtual Boy, ended up being a commercial failure.

VB Mario Land is a two-dimensional platforming game like earlier Super Mario series installments developed before it. Though it borrowed several elements from Super Mario Bros., such as having to reach the flagpole at the end, VB Mario Land's main and distinct gimmick would have been a three-dimensional perspective in that Mario would travel between both the foreground and background for his journey. There were also areas with an overhead display very much in the manner of the two-dimensional The Legend of Zelda games.

A Mario Bros.-inspired minigame would have appeared in VB Mario Land, similar to how Super Mario Bros. 3 has the Battle Game, a remake of Mario Bros..
