Retro Studios

Retro Studios is an American video game developer based in Austin, Texas. It was founded by Jeff Spangenberg in 1998 as an independent development studio to create games exclusively for Nintendo. It initially started with four projects for the Nintendo GameCube, but all of them were cancelled. It was eventually bought out by Nintendo to become a first-party developer and a division of Nintendo. Its first major release was Metroid Prime. Its first title related to Mario was Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii.
