Grape, also referred to as Madame Grape is the main antagonist/villain of Princess Peach: Showtime!.

Physical Appearance

Madame Grape has long purple-ish blue curly hair. A golden mask covers her face, and she has a blue hat and a dress with a poofy skirt and a gem on the bodice. She carries a golden staff that gives her various powers. Whether she has legs or not has yet to be revealed, as she moves by floating around.

History

Along with her minions in the Sour Bunch, Grape invades Sparkle Theater while Princess Peach is in attendance. Peach teams up with the theater's guardian Stella to put a stop to Grape's madness.

Eventually with the power of the Sparklas, Peach transforms into Radiant Peach in order to battle Grape with Peach ultimately defeating her leaving behind her mask.

However, as Peach and Stella walk away, the mask laughs, and Grape suddenly comes back to life, destroying the Sparkle Theater in the process. Peach transforms into a more powerful version of her Radiant transformation, known as Super Radiant Peach, and is forced to battle Grape once again. Peach manages to defeat her again and uses her powers to rebuild the theater undoing Grape's actions.

During the credits, Grape's mask is seen floating away from the theater, indicating that she may return.

Name

Madame Grape's name, when combined with that of the Sour Bunch, plays off the phrase "sour grapes;" it also refers to her purple coloration and may also play into a fruit theme with Princess Peach's name.

Nomenclature

Madame Grape is called "Gurēpu" in Japanese, written グレープ and derived from a transliteration of the word "grape." Her Spanish name is "grape," perhaps derived from the English word of the same spelling. In Portuguese, she is called "Rubi," named after the Uva Rubi from Brazil. The Italian dub calls her "Uva Spina," which means "gooseberry." In French, she is called "Syrah," after the Syrah grape from France. Her Chinese name is "Guìpú" (written 桂葡) and derived from pútáo ("grape;" written 葡萄). In Russian, Madame Grape is called "Gryeyp," written "Грейп" and derived from the English word, and in Korean, she is called "Geurei-peu" (written 그레이프), which, as in Japanese and Russian, is derived from a transliteration of "grape."

The word "Madame" in Grape's epithet by the Sour Bunch, "Madame Grape," becomes the following in other dubs:

• Spanish: doña ("Mrs.") or su señoría ("lordship"), depending on the region
• Portuguese: Manda-uva (from manda chuva) ("big shot" or "big cheese;" forms a pun on uva rubi ("ruby grape"))

• Dutch: Hare Zurigheid (Zurigheid means "sourness.")
