Ugarat Odhan

Map Seven Cities detail

The Ugarat Odhan was a desert on the central part of the continent of Seven Cities. It was bordered on the north by the Thalas Mountains, to the south by the Jhena Mountains and Clatar Sea, to the east by the Mersin river, and to the west by the River Ugarat and the Jhag Odhan. The Odhan itself was named after the holy city located on it, Ugarat.

It was once fertile plains and forests, but the cities lining the Mersin river practiced intensive irrigation, drawing the river's waters out onto the plains and clearing the forests. This led to the loss of the top-soil of the plains and made the area a desert.[1] Remains of old caravan tracks still crossed the odhan, although they had not been regularly used for over a thousand years.[2]

Bhederin herds had once crossed the odhan's northernmost region, packing down the hilltops over thousands of years. But the herds were gone, and only the bones of long ago hunts remained.[3]

In The Bonehunters

Karsa Orlong found Samar Dev dying of thirst on a track in the odhan lying in the shadow of her disabled wagon. The Teblor offered to bring her to safety in return for her assistance getting him into Ugarat unnoticed.[4]
