Silann was a captain in Urusander's Legion. He was married to Esthala, captain and commander of a Legion cohort. Silann and his wife had a testy relationship, often having venomous arguments in the presence of their soldiers. Among other issues, each blamed the other for their son, Endest Silann, joining the priestly orders at Kharkanas rather than choosing a role more supportive of their ambitions.[1]
Silann and his wife were members of Hunn Raal's conspiracy to place Vatha Urusander on the throne. He was not a very deep thinker, making rash spontaneous decisions that did not serve the conspiracy's overall strategy and threatened its secrecy.[2]
In Forge of Darkness
Silann led a troop of legionnaires near Tulla Hold where they were recognized by Gripp Galas and Haral, members of a passing caravan. In response, Silann turned his troops around and massacred the caravan, but Gripp and the child, Orfantal, escaped. He did not realize how badly he had botched the unnecessary attack until he returned to camp and reported to his wife and Lieutenant Risp.[3] Risp offered to take a squad to track down and kill the survivors. She soon discovered that Orfantal was the grandson of former legionnaire captain Korlas and that he was likely headed to Kharkanas with Gripp.[4] In an attempt to spare their own necks and out of respect for Korlas, Sergeant Darav recommended the squad pin the crime on Captain Silann. They believed Captain Esthala would choose duty to the Legion over her husband. Esthala chose not to condemn her husband, but Silann was rattled by how close she had come to accepting the plan. He later participated in the slaughter of the villagers at Riven Keep and was glad to hear that Risp had died in the attack.[5]
