Renfayar

The Renfayar were a once-mighty Awl clan that had been impoverished and decimated by the Letherii Factor Letur Anict of Drene. Only six underaged warriors remained and no shouldermen or witches were left. Their herds of Myrid and Rodara were too few for even the clan's small population.[1] They had one remaining Elder.

Their self-declared war leader was the unblooded youth, Masarch.[1] Like the other boys, he had cast away the Renfayar's traditions as failures.[1]

Redmask had been a member of the clan when it was more prosperous.[2][3][4]

Notable Renfayar

In Reaper's Gale

When Redmask returned from exile, he first made his way to the Renfayar clan and seized control from Masarch and the other young boys. In the name of Awl tradition, he forced them to undergo the Death Night ritual that marked an Awl boy's passage into manhood.[5] Then he brought Masarch, Kraysos, and Theven to one of Factor Anict's drover camps to steal their herds, while Redmask's K'Chain Che'Malle guardians massacred Anict's workers.[6] Redmask used the wealth of the herds to help take control of the powerful Ganetok clan and unite the Awl under his leadership.[7] The drover massacre also caused Factor Anict to sanction the Awl Campaign, sending Atri-Preda Bivatt to annihilate Redmask and the Awl.[8]

The Renfayar Elder was the only Awl to personally remember Redmask from before his exile when was the adopted son of the Renfayar's former leader.[3][2][4] The Elder used this knowledge as a form of blackmail to try to bend Redmask to his wishes.[3]
