Kholb Harat

Kholb Harat, along with Choram Irard and Matra Brith, was a young Tiste Edur and a fellow unblooded friend of Rhulad Sengar.[1]

In Midnight Tides

When Rhulad declared himself emperor of the Tiste Edur, he proclaimed Kholb, Choram, and Matra his "brothers of blood", much to Trull Sengar's amusement and dismay. Trull was amused that Rhulad had chosen only friends he could easily beat in contests of sword and spear, but he irritatedly told his brother, Fear, that the three had not earned their position and he would not take orders from them. Fear reminded Trull that he and Trull were Rhulad's brothers of blood as well and so would not be commanded by Rhulad's friends. But Fear warned that anyone else under his command who complained would know the edge of his sword.[1]

The three men stood at Emperor Rhulad's side at the Battle of Brans Keep. Along with Theradas and Midik Buhn, they were angered by the emperor's reliance on his Letherii slave, Udinaas. They cast dark looks the slave's way and laughed when Theradas struck him to the ground as if on accident.[2]

After Rhulad conquered Letheras and declared himself emperor of the Letherii, his first command was to Kholb, Choram, and Matra. They each were given a company of warriors to hunt Udinaas who had seemingly abandoned the emperor's side after Rhulad had been slain by Moroch Nevath.[3]

In The Bonehunters

Several years after the events of "Midnight Tides", Kholb Harat accompanied the Third Edur Imperial Fleet under the command of Tomad Sengar to Seven Cities. The fleet was tasked by Emperor Rhulad with terrorising and murdering the people of Seven Cities and finding and returning with suitable champions for the emperor to fight to the death.[4]

Kholb, and the like-minded Saur Bathrada, became particularly fond of spilling the blood of innocents and inflicting as much pain and horror as possible while doing so (being unusually sadistic even for Rhulad's Tiste Edur). Whenever possible, they liked to take the lead whenever bloody mayhem was in the offing. Discovering a slave class of mixed race Edur on Sepik, they sadistically murdered the men, women, and children of an entire village before seizing the Edur as their own slaves.[5]

The two later joined an expedition with Arapay warlock Sathbaro Rangar, Ahlrada Ahn, and two hundred Edur warriors and sixty Letherii archers to capture the Throne of Shadow on Drift Avalii. But when they arrived at the Throne's location, they were horrified to discover it had been destroyed. Ahlrada Ahn encouraged the warlock to take the enraged Edur to instead capture the T'lan Imass First Throne, none realising the Throne of Shadow's destruction was only Shadowthrone's illusion.[6]

The First Throne was defended by the child soldiers of Minala's Company of Shadow as well as the renegade Trull Sengar, and the three T'lan Imass, Onrack T'emlava, Ibra Gholan, and Monok Ochem. Kholb and Saur were outraged to recognise Trull and lunged into the fight against him together. Kholb slashed Trull across the left wrist before Ahlrada Ahn attacked Kholb from behind and cut off his head. When Saur turned to confront the treacherous Ahn, Trull dispatched Saur with his spear. Unknown to all, Ahlrada Ahn was a light-skinned Tiste Andii spy among the Edur and admirer of Trull.[7][8]
