Dresh

Dresh was a city in northwestern Lether at the mouth of the Moss River on the coast of Katter Bight. The city of Catch was directly to its north and Breeder's Wood was about half a day's walk to the southeast.^[1]

Before the Letherii conquest, Dresh had been the territory of the Tarthenal tribes.^[2] In fact, the name "Dresh" was of Tarthenal origin.^[2] It was likely that Dresh also referred to a group of people that had once lived in the region.^[3]

Dresh Lake, once popular with swimmers and fishermen, had been the site of a disastrous attempt to locally raise Moss River eels, a delicacy. Without their natural predators, the eels grew enormous and began devouring adolescent swimmers. Attempts to stock the lake with the eels' predators backfired when the razor-jawed river fish became frenzy feeders in their new environment and killed adult swimmers. Ultimately, the lake had to be poisoned and was now unused.^[4]

In Midnight Tides

During the war between the Kingdom of Lether and the Tiste Edur, Dresh fell to the Edur shortly after Trate. The victorious Edur slaughtered the garrison.^[5]

In Reaper's Gale

Among the scrolls stolen by Feather Witch from the Imperial Library were mentions of various obscure peoples who had been conquered by the Letherii in the last seven or eight centuries. This included the Dresh^[3] for whom the city was likely named.
