Area 66

"Yes, there is a hidden military base on the island, and we at DeathWatch Game Control are happy to reveal all! Be the first to use our never-before-seen weapons of mass mayhem. Believe us, you really don't want to be second!"
—Area description text

Area 66 is the fourth and thus penultimate major area in MadWorld. It is located entirely inside an secret, underground military base, that borrows heavily from a science fiction aesthetic. As such, some of the most powerful weapons in the game are found here.

It is preceded by Mad Castle and succeeded by Casino Land.

Levels

Like all major areas, Area 66 also consists of three levels.

The Access Hangar is the first level and Jack's entrance point into the base. Jack traverses it by motorcycle, making this level the second of the game's two motorcycle levels. Unlike the first, though, Jack has to earn points to unlock the road's exit onto the heavy freight elevator, where Kojack is fought in a motorcycle battle.

Continuing further afoot, Jack enters the Maintenance Facility, where various machines and alien technologies are stored and researched, plenty of which can be utilized as weapons, such as a rocket's thrusters or an alien tractor beam. There are also various containers that double as prison cells for captured Grays. The main centerpiece is an alien spacecraft, on top of which The Masters are fought.

The final level is the Robot Factory. The most advanced battle robot of all, Martin, is fought here, and the boss fight begins immediately.

Trivia

  • Unlike Asian Town and Mad Castle, Area 66 doesn't have music that matches it's Sci-Fi theme, in contrast to the former two's Wutai & Horror themed music.
  • It's name is an obvious parody of Area 51, a real-life American military base located in Nevada, which is the subject of multiple conspiracy theories involving aliens as well as hidden advanced & experimental technology.
    • The previous trivia makes Area 66 the only level in MadWorld to directly reference a real life location.
    • Judging by the presences of Area 66 and Casino Land, which is reminiscent of, but not a direct reference to Las Vegas, Jefferson Island might take place in the MadWorld universes equivalent of Nevada.
    • It's name also might be a parody of Route 66, a famous highway in the U.S.A.
  • Area 66 is the only stage besides Casino Land that doesn't have MADWORLD, by Optimus as a boss theme.
    • It is also the only level besides Varrigan City to have the same boss theme for two different bosses.
    • It is the only level in MadWorld where the theme for the first boss is the theme for the last boss.
