Many different iterations of 'Scum' were written & recorded as demos during the months Lovejoy spent working on Wake Up & It's Over. The final version is an amalgamation of an early demo of 'Scum' & a bridge from another demo instrumental track called 'It Eats You Alive'.

- The song was first played at their pseudonymous gig under the alias 'Lampwith Sock'[1][2].
- Ranboo is believed to have 'saved' the track from being scrapped, similar to how Tommy saved "Perfume"[3].
- This is further evidenced by the self-titled Anvil Card stating that the final version was an amalgamation of two earlier tracks.
