The Raft-elves are a group of elves from Mirkwood specifically tasked with transporting goods along the Forest River. They live in a small village of huts located on a protruding bank of the river, near the eastern edge of Mirkwood. These elves are responsible for collecting empty barrels from the Elvenking's Halls and sending them downstream to Lake-town (Esgaroth) to be refilled with goods.

The raft-elves use both rafts and flat boats to transport these barrels, which are tied together and poled or rowed up and down the river. They play a crucial role in the trade between the Woodland Realm and Lake-town, ensuring a steady flow of supplies.

In The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins encounters the raft-elves while hiding in a barrel, following the dwarves of Thorin and Company as they escape from the Wood-elves. The raft-elves are depicted as sturdy and practical, wearing garments in various shades of green to blend in with their forest surroundings.
