The Mystics, also called Acolytes, were dark magic users aligned with both Sauron[1] and the Dark Wizard.[2]
They were created for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Depiction
The Mystics are depicted as malevolent magic users outfitted with strange white robes and garments. They were very powerful, and could work great magic with their staves.[1]
History
Hailing from Rhûn, the Mystics revered Sauron as their "Master".[1] By the time of his re-emergence In the Second Age, they became Acolytes of the "Dark Wizard", a mysterious Istar dwelling in Caras Gaer.[2]
Mistaking the arrival of the Stranger for Sauron's return, three of the Mystics ventured westwards to bring him to their side. Finding the Stranger, the trio paid him homage and hailed him as their old master. Facing resistance, the Mystics attempted to subdue him for their journey back to Rhûn, but were confronted by the Harfoots. In the ensuing scuffle, the Stranger revealed himself to not be Sauron, but an Istar, and destroyed their bodies. Through a blood ritual, the Dweller, one of the three Mystics, was restored by the Dark Wizard and reported her discovery. Disappointed with his servants' failure, the Dark Wizards sent the Gaudrim to track down the Stranger instead.[2]
