Meteoric iron[1] is a rare and significant material. One of the most notable instances is the sword Anglachel, which was forged from meteoric iron. This sword was created by the dark elf Eöl and later became known as Gurthang when it was reforged and wielded by Túrin Turambar. Another notable weapon made from meteoric iron is Anguirel, the twin sword to Anglachel, also forged by Eöl. However, Anguirel's fate is less detailed in the stories compared to Anglachel/Gurthang.
Meteoric iron is often associated with extraordinary properties, such as exceptional strength and a certain mystical quality. These attributes make weapons forged from it particularly powerful and significant in the stories. Weapons made from meteoric iron are typically stronger and more durable than those made from regular iron. This makes them highly prized in battles and forges. Meteoric iron is often imbued with a sense of the otherworldly, giving weapons forged from it unique and sometimes magical qualities. Meteoric iron is much rarer than regular iron, adding to the prestige and value of items made from it.
