Enya (born Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin on May 17, 1961, Dore, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland) is a multilingual Irish mult-instrumentist, musician, composer, songwriter and singer, whose career has spanned New Age music, Celtic folk music, and ambient pop since 1980. She is the biggest-selling solo artist and four Grammy Best New Age Music Albums of the Year winner from Ireland, despite never touring.
In 1991, before The Lord of the Rings films, Enya wrote a piano instrumental track "Lothlórien" about The Lord of the Rings novel on her second studio album Shepherd Moons (1991).
In 2001, she wrote "May It Be" to be the end credit song for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The song earned her nomination for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award in 2002. She also composed and sang the theme for Aragorn and Arwen, which appears in the same film and is named "Aníron". The words to it were written by Enya's lyricist, Roma Ryan. In the listing of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, "Aníron" accompanies the track "The Council of Elrond".
"May It Be" and "Aníron" both feature Elven languages, respectively Quenya and Sindarin.
