Summary
Gideon's henchman grabs leverage to use against the Lockes as Tyler and Kinsey look for a way to help Bode, who's developing a clever plan of his own.
Plot
Captain Frederick Gideon realizes that he needs one last key before he can fully merge the human and demon worlds. He sends James Bolton to kidnap Jamie Bennett in order to force the Lockes to reveal the location of the last key. Josh is shot in the process, but warns the Lockes about Bolton's mission.
Kinsey, Tyler, and Nina Locke regroup at Ellie Whedon's rental property, and concoct a strategy to get Bode a new body by leveraging the promise of the final key when in reality, they are ignorant as to its whereabouts. When Bolton appears, Kinsey and Tyler persuade him to release Jamie in exchange for the location of the final key, and Nina rushes Josh to the hospital. She explains the gist of their ordeal in non-magical terms, and is relieved when Josh believes her. Bolton takes the Locke siblings back to Keyhouse at gunpoint.
Bode, still trapped as a Keyhouse ghost, finds out that Sam Lesser's ghost helped lead Kinsey to the Angel Key and harness, and begrudgingly asks him for help. Sam, wanting to atone for his actions, teaches him to influence the behavior of birds.
At Keyhouse, Tyler lies about the final key, telling Gideon it can only be retrieved by ghosts. He distracts Gideon and Bolton while the Ghost Door is open, and Bode commands a bird to fly into its threshold before possessing its body. Bolton also leaves his body behind to search for the key as a ghost. Nina and Ellie turn up at Keyhouse to battle Gideon, and while he is preoccupied, Kinsey takes the Animal Key from him. By passing through the Animal Door from the outside as a bird, Bode regains his human form.
Rufus arrives at Keyhouse to help, but Gideon takes him hostage. Ellie reveals the final key's location: her former classmate Gordie Shaw's head. Gideon locks all the keys except the Head and Harlequin Keys in the Harlequin chest, and departs Keyhouse with Ellie, telling a reawakened Bolton to tie Rufus and the Lockes up. After Gideon leaves, however, Bolton identifies himself as Sam Lesser, revealing that his ghost jumped into the echo's unoccupied body.
