Amelia Pond, known as Amy for short and otherwise as the Girl Who Waited, was a companion of the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor, having first met him as a child before reuniting with him as a young woman. Married to Rory Williams, she also became the mother of Professor River Song, a time-traveller in her own right and eventual wife to the Doctor.
Biography
Amelia Pond first met the “Raggedy Doctor” as a young girl when he crashed into her garden, freshly regenerated. He helped deal with the Crack in Time in her wall. She subsequently waited for the Doctor to return as he'd promised to do, wanting to go travel with him.
As a child, she wrote a notebook all about her life and how it revolved around the Doctor, The Raggedy Doctor by Amelia Pond. In it, she related some anecdotes about her life with her friends, who numbered "27 plus Rory". Foremost among these friends according to the book was Mels, (WC: The Raggedy Doctor by Amelia Pond) who Amy would later discover was actually a temporally-displaced version of her own daughter Melody Pond, alias River Song. Later, travelling with the Eleventh Doctor as an adult woman, Amy Pond encountered and befriended Vincent van Gogh. Although the "good things" they added to his life (notably giving him a glimpse of his future fame, complete with a vibrant homage from Doctor Black) were not enough to stave off his eventual suicide, Van Gogh having struggled with mental illness all his life, the Doctor convinced Amy that they had improved Vincent's life on the whole, even so. The Eleventh Doctor, Amy, and Rory were present on the Adipose Nursery Ship (GAME: the Doctor? (activity book) Where's the Doctor?) which transported the newborn Adipose — which included Michelin Man and Mrs Stay Puft — to their new home. (PROSE: The Complete Story of My Life (So Far))
