―Starehe's catchphrase[src]

Starehe is a female zebra. She is a member of Dhahabu's herd.

When Dhahabu journeyed to the Pride Lands to discuss a water treaty with Simba, Starehe and her brother, Raha, accompanied her. While with Dhahabu, Raha and Starehe defended her from a jackal attack, but she mistakenly identified Tiifu and Zuri as her saviors. Raha and Starehe did not correct the misunderstanding, as they hoped to remain a positive influence in her life. Eventually, Raha and Starehe saved Dhahabu's life again, this time in her full view, which prompted her to appoint them to be her bodyguards in Tiifu and Zuri's stead.

Biography

Early life

Starehe had a brother named Raha. They lived in the Back Lands as members of Dhahabu's herd.[1]

Meeting the Lion Guard

This makes us really...unhappy.

Kion led his team into the Back Lands, where they encountered Raha and Starehe. Shortly into their conversation, the two zebras agreed to lead the Lion Guard to their leader, Dhahabu. Once they had reunited with the rest of their herd, Raha and Starehe praised Dhahabu for being so uniquely beautiful and special.

Later, Dhahabu brokenheartedly revealed that the herd's watering hole had dried up. Shocked at Dhahabu's attempt to conceal the truth from them, Raha and Starehe abandoned her. However, after Dhahabu and the Lion Guard refilled the watering hole by freeing a blocked waterfall, Raha and Starehe gladly returned to the herd and drank from their replenished water source.[1]

Becoming Dhahabu's bodyguard

Dhahabu arrived in the Pride Lands to discuss a water treaty between her kingdom and Simba's. Raha and Starehe accompanied her. After meeting with Simba atop Pride Rock, Dhahabu was escorted on a tour around the kingdom by Kiara, Tiifu, and Zuri.

Later, the Lion Guard ran into Raha and Starehe, who were depressed that their queen had no need of them. Ono offered to find her for them and soon discovered that she was being set upon by jackals. Along with Raha and Starehe, the Lion Guard rushed to the rescue and fought off the pack. During the fight, Tiifu and Zuri cowered behind Dhahabu, while Raha and Starehe fiercely fought off their queen's attackers. Dhahabu misinterpreted the situation, believing that Tiifu and Zuri were her saviors. As a result, she appointed them to her "Queen's Guard" along with Fuli. To the Lion Guard's surprise, Raha and Starehe did not correct Dhahabu but rather let Tiifu and Zuri take the credit.

Afterward, Kion questioned Raha and Starehe on their motivations, and they explained that Dhahabu kept them around to be a positive influence. If they were to become her bodyguards, they reasoned, they would lose that illusion of happiness.

Later, Dhahabu was freshening up at a water hole when the jackals attacked again, this time with crocodile allies. Ono informed the Lion Guard of the predicament, and Raha and Starehe raced off to defend their queen. This time, they fought in front of Dhahabu, who was incredulous at their skills. After the fight, Dhahabu relieved Fuli, Tiifu, and Zuri of their duties and appointed Raha and Starehe in their stead. Together, the group returned to Pride Rock, where Dhahabu renewed her water treaty with the Pride Landers.[2]
