To think our eggs were personally saved by the king! What an honor!
―Mbuni on Simba[src]

Mbuni is a female ostrich. She is a member of a flock of ostriches in the Pride Lands.

When Bunga became a self-proclaimed sage, Mbuni sought advice from him. Bunga foolishly told her to hide from hyenas by sticking her head in the ground, and the rest of the Lion Guard came to her aid when she got stuck. Later, when Simba saved her flock's eggs from a mudslide, she was greatly appreciative and honored.

Biography

Mbuni lived in the Pride Lands alongside the rest of her flock.[1]

Bunga's advice

―Mbuni, after she takes Bunga's advice to stick her head in the ground[src]

Mbuni asked Bunga for advice on what to do about her fear of hyenas. She then took his advice to stick her head in the sand whenever she got scared. After getting stuck, she required the assistance of the Lion Guard.[2]

Honoring Simba

Mbuni bowed to Simba as he passed through the Pride Lands.[3]

Kupatana

Yep! Can't wait!
―Mbuni on Kupatana[src]

Mbuni sang the opening choral piece for the Kupatana celebration, along with Basi and Twiga.[4]

False alarm

Mbuni ran away from Mtoto and his friends, who were pretending to be hyenas. She later rested at the watering hole.[5]

Saved by Simba

Our eggs! Our eggs!

When a mudslide threatened a nest of ostrich eggs, Mbuni and the other ostriches began to panic. The Lion Guard arrived on the scene and successfully rescued the eggs. This prompted thanks from Mbuni, who was honored to have been personally served by Simba, the king of the Pride Lands.

Later, a stampede of gazelles threatened the eggs once more, and the ostriches began to run around in a panic. Fuli arrived to calm them, while Ono halted the gazelles. Thus, the eggs were saved once more.[1]

Savannah Summit

When Ono used his keen sight to view Pride Rock, he saw Mbuni and her flock.[6]

Dust devil

The dust devil caught us in this gully. At least, it was a gully until all the sand blew in.
―Mbuni[src]

Mbuni and her flock were trapped in a gully after a dust devil struck. They were soon freed by the Lion Guard.[7]

Conflict with Shujaa

Mbuni fled from Shujaa, a destructive gorilla.[8]

Physical appearance

Mbuni is tall and long-legged, with black feathers and a pinkish-white neck. She has a tuft of white feathers on her head and blue eyes.[2]

Personality and traits

Gullible and overly trusting, Mbuni was quick to take the advice of Bunga, which landed her in trouble.[2] She is not a very talented singer and can be quite forgetful.[4] When faced with an attack or any sort of stress, she is prone to losing her head and racing about in a panic.[1]
