The primary duty of the majordomo is to report on activity in the Pride Lands to the reigning monarch. They are especially vital to informing the monarch of emergencies, such as attacks by enemy prides or stampedes.[1] In addition, the majordomo is often tasked with taking care of the princes or princesses of the kingdom, as is a frequent duty of Zazu's.[2]

The majordomo is expected to retain utmost loyalty to the monarch, even at the cost of his life. Zazu demonstrated such loyalty when he offered himself in Kion's place when the cub incited the wrath of Pua's float.[3]
