Afia is a female lion. She is the mate of Masego, with whom she has a son, Mufasa. She is a member of Mufasa's pride.
When Mufasa was young, a flash flood separated him from his parents. While Masego perished in the flood, Afia forged off on her own, eventually reaching the fabled paradise of "Milele." Mufasa later joined her there, where he became the territory's first king.
Biography
Early life
Afia lived in a desolate wasteland. She took on a mate, Masego, with whom she had a son named Mufasa.[1]
Flash flood

As Mufasa grew up, Afia and Masego taught him about a fabled paradise known as "Milele."

One day, it began to rain, which delighted Afia and her family. However, as water began to fill a nearby ravine in which Mufasa was playing, her and Masego's joy turned to worry, and they urged Mufasa to come back to them. Too late, he got swept into turbulent floodwaters, and Masego jumped in to rescue him. After Masego carried Mufasa to the side of the ravine, Afia climbed down toward him and encouraged him to climb toward her. Paralyzed by fear, Mufasa refused to move, and an elephant got swept into the rocks upon which he was standing, flinging him back into the flood. He was then carried far downstream, away from his parents.
While Masego perished in the flood, Afia survived. On her own, she journeyed to Milele.[1]
Reunion with Mufasa
Years later, a full-grown Mufasa journeyed to Milele and saved it from an attack by the Outsiders. After the battle, he caught a familiar scent and followed it to where Afia stood, alive and well. He asked what had become of Masego, and Afia confessed that he had died but added that he lived on in Mufasa. She then watched proudly as Mufasa ascended the newly formed Pride Rock and became Milele's first king.[1]
Physical appearance
Afia is a moderately sized lioness with a slight, skinny build. She has gold-tinted brown fur, with a cream underbelly and a dark stripe on her forehead. In her later years, Afia gained white facial markings.[1]
Personality and traits
Afia is loving, instructive, and maternal. She is a fiercely devoted mother who will put her life at risk to protect her son.[1]
