A Teleporter is a level feature that transports Lemmings who enter it from one spot to another. Teleporters are always paired with another Teleporter, allowing multiple Lemmings to reach one particular area. They first appeared in the Space Tribe from Lemmings 2: The Tribes, and reappeared in 3D Lemmings, Lemmings Revolution, and Lemmings (PS3).
Biography
"Teleporters are a great invention when you know where they take you. Unfortunately, in this case, you don't! Be prepared to send your Lemmings unknowingly into oblivion." - Lemmings Revolution manual description
"Watch out for other features such as cloning machines, teleporters, indestructible steel and dark levels!" - Sixth page of "How To Play" guide in Lemmings (PS3)
Appearance and animation
In Lemmings 2: The Tribes, a Teleporter is a cylindrical object with a black top, black base, and red sides, which are divided by thin black bars. When a Teleporter is used, its sides flash a brighter red three times. A Lemming entering a Teleporter becomes surrounded by a yellow blaze, which absorbs the Lemming and makes it disappear. A Lemming exiting a Teleporter is initially surrounded by this yellow blaze, which then clears away.
In 3D Lemmings, a Teleporter is a gray, square-shaped tile that sits flatly on the ground. There is a gray metallic circle outline within the square outline; a red fluid is visible beneath the Teleporter's holes, with a ripple at the point beneath the circle. When a Teleporter is being used, this ripple animates. When a Lemming uses a Teleporter, it is squished by its sides and leaves several blue star particles in its wake. When a Lemming exits a Teleporter, the stars appear first, then the Lemming emerges as a thin line and expands to return to its regular shape.
In Lemmings Revolution, a Teleporter is gray, hollow disc with its interior pointed horizontally. It has stands at its bottom and a white spiral swirling within the hole at its center. When a Teleporter is used, an azure beam of light radiates from out the side through which it absorbs or releases Lemmings. When a Lemming enters a Teleporter, it floats, faces its feet toward the Teleporter, and spins in place until it shrinks. When a Lemming exits a Teleporter, it expands from out the Teleporter while spinning and floating, until it lands.
In Lemmings (PS3), a Teleporter is a white, striped object shaped like a hemi-ellipse. Their faces project a line of five expanding and shrinking cyan rings, and constantly absorb cyan star particles. Teleporters used for entering are placed on the ground and face upward, whereas Teleporters that Lemmings exit from float above the ground and face downward. A single pair of Teleporters has red-and-white stripes. If a second pair of Teleporters is present, that pair has green-and-white stripes. If a third pair of Teleporters is present, that pair has blue-and-white stripes. A Lemming who uses a Teleporter jumps up, stretches its body, and disappears in a flash of light. It exits with the light surrounding it, which then clears away.
Uses
Lemmings who enter Teleporters are taken to the area the paired Teleporter is located at. This can be used to reach areas that cannot be reached using the provided skills. Teleporters can still accept Lemmings who enter it while another Lemming is in the process of being teleported.
When a Lemming enters a Teleporter in Lemmings 2: The Tribes, 3D Lemmings, or Lemmings (PS3), it continues walking in the direction it was when it entered the Teleporter. This is not necessarily the case in Lemmings Revolution.
In Lemmings 2: The Tribes, 3D Lemmings, and Lemmings Revolution, two paired Teleporters can be entered and exited interchangeably. In Lemmings (PS3), each Teleporter in a pair is designated as either for entering or exiting, and cannot be used to move a Lemming back to its original position.
