Nicolas "Nick" Falco was a homicide detective who was temporarily partnered with Joe Fontana, after Ed Green is shot. (L&O: "Tombstone")
He returns a year later after he is framed for a woman's murder, a homicide that took place in his own apartment. Detectives Fontana and Green work to clear his name, which was made more complicated by Falco injecting himself into the investigation despite repeated orders to stay away. Due to Falco being a credible alternative suspect, the killer is found not guilty, but it is determined she was set up to murder the victim and frame Falco by the ex-wife of a man Falco sent to prison for eleven years. The man had always blamed Falco, claiming that Falco set him up, but finally accepted that he committed the murder and truly changed his ways. To get the ex-wife to confess, the man's son takes Falco "hostage" in his apartment during a standoff with the police and threatens his life. After the killer confesses, Falco and the detectives reveal that it was all a setup with the son using an unloaded gun provided by the police. Falco is subsequently exonerated. (L&O: "Hindsight")
