Mi Clan

The Mi Clan (巳の一族, Mi no Ichizoku?) is a clan in Li that serves the Imperial Family by specializing in gathering information. Unlike other named clans, the members are not publicly known, nor are they all related.

Overview

The Mi clan guards the Imperial Family from the shadows, through an intelligence network. New members are chosen by a member of the clan as their successor and trained to become spies. Those who are chosen are mostly family of existing members, but may also be outsiders. As the clan members' identities are unknown, they can also be part of other clans, and their existence is often even unknown to other members of the Mi clan.[1]

Mi clan work entails following the orders and completing missions from a certain imperial family member, their master. Each member in the Mi clan has a rank, with a higher rank meaning greater prestige. Their rank also applies to their successor.[1]

Trivia

  • Their name corresponds to the snake of the zodiac.
  • According to Gaoshun, the Mi clan teaches its members that the highest joy is obey the orders of their master.[2]
  • As both guard the imperial family, the Mi and Ma clans sometimes intermarry.[3]
