Vinata

Vinata was a sura of the Garuda clan. She was the wife of Garuda and the mother of Maruna and Kalavinka. She is dead by the time of the main story.

Appearance

In her human form she appears with warm-brown skin. She has blonde-red (top-down) hair of medium length. Her wings are very beautiful and resemble a red flower pin. Vinata wears dark brown trousers and a dark brown sleeved top that covers her chest but does not extend to her muscular abdomen. The top also covers her neck and partially her fingers.

Personality

Not much is know about her personality, but Ravana described her as being "all work and no play." She was sensitive about what happened between her husband and Kali, showing she was proud.

Skills and Abilities

Nothing specific is known about Vinata's skills at this time, however, as even if she was ranked second in her clan, there was a huge power gap between her and Garuda. This is as the majority of powerful Nastikas of the Garuda clan died out during the events of The Finite.

Notes

  • According to Taraka, Vinata only cared for her own children.
  • Although Vinata was the second strongest in the clan, there was a huge power difference between her and Garuda because all the nastikas who were placed between them in strength had died throughout the course of the universe.[1]
  • The reason Maruna becomes so muscular is because of the genes his mother passed on.[2] Maruna also inherited Vinata's "grace" (drawing skills)[3]

Plot

History

Vinata was the second-ranked nastika of the Garuda clan. She is the mother of two of Garuda's three living children, the eldest, Maruna, and the youngest, Kalavinka. The middle child is the result of an unexplained affair Garuda had with Kali.[4] Vinata would get teased for suffering the presence of her stepson[1] and she would allegedly ignore him and only care for her own children.[5]

Due to problems with the power of Garuda's name, about 300 years ago, all three children were entrusted to friends of Garuda.[6] Vinata was obliterated during the Cataclysm of N0 and never got to see her children again.[7]

The Finite

By D865 most of the other nastika of Vinata's clan had died and she became the 2nd-ranked in the Garuda clan despite a large gap in power between her and Garuda. She appears in a meeting hosted by Ravana, who mocks and taunts her about being a "jilted woman." He explains rumors have already spread that her husband had taken Yuta to the Garuda clan and barely paid attention to her children. Moreover, he insults Vinata, implying that her husband no longer loved her. She gets angry and before leaving, chastises Ravana for his lowly behavior.

Extra: Special Episode 7 - Ideal

Ideal - Maruna with Vinata and Akasha

(1) In D651, Vinata stands besides Akasha when Maruna presents a not particularly successful drawing and asks which of Akasha's daughters it is. Akasha first considers this a joke, and much to Vinata's amusement, suspects Vinata of putting him up to it. Vinata jests that Maruna must have inherited her grace, and assures Akasha that he had no ill intentions.

Akasha eventually refuses to let Vinata's son meet her daughters because she wants to marry them off to nastikas as she will not suffer any Upani grandchildren. Vinata advises Maruna to forget about the girl.
