Praul Ajes

Praul Ajes is the Principal of Atera Magic Academy and the father of twins Kanna and Leto Ajes.

Appearance

Praul is a middle-aged man with shoulder-length straw-colored hair and blue eyes. He wears a white mage suit with a high collar, and a light gray cowl.

Personality

Praul appears to be a competent leader, powerful magician, and a good person who does his best to save as many as he can and laments whenever he is unable to do so.

Yet at times, he seems like a bit of a scatter-brain, who has trouble with time management and arrives late to meetings.

He loves his family a lot and prioritizes the well-being of his children.

Notes

• Praul married late, has two children, and wants to quit his job as principal (the pay is very high) to enjoy the rest of his life, but is forced by his wife to stay in his job and is stuck at the Academy until the twins graduate.^[1]
• The kin degree between Praul and Jibril Ajes is 9, and between him and Brilith Ruin is 10. In fact, they are so distantly related that they are not even aware of each other as relatives, even though Jibril was personally acquainted with him (they were magic test partners). Other than on official occasions, he seems to have little contact with Brilith.^[1]

Plot

History

When he was young, wild rumors of him being the son of the famous half-dragon Kroha (who would be 300 years old now if still alive) of planet Taitalika were all over the place, but he denies them now and apparently there is no way to prove them.^[1]

Season 1

Chapter 10: The Night it Rained Fire

(2) When Praul's twin children, Kanna and Leto, are caught sneaking into the magician's only library by Tara and Brilith, Tara yells at the kids if their father ever taught them about listening to their elders.

(3) At the Atera magic academy, magicians observe that the sky has become red and conclude that the suras must be attacking again. Evacuations are under way.

Urga III says that there is enough space for students in the evacuation chamber, but not for the people outside. When Praul asks how they dealt with this problem during the last attack, Urga replies that no one evacuated to this place back then because all paths were blocked by fire. Praul wishes for fire to be blocking paths this time as well.

Suddenly, Praul's children, Kanna and Leto, appear and start bugging their father. They say that they are going to tell their mother that he is talking to another woman instead of going to her first thing after returning. Praul tries to free himself by saying now is not the time for this, but the children excitedly start telling him about how they met the Priestess and how she told them about summoning magic.

(9) Cloche, in sura form, attacks the Atera Magic Academy. An unknown magician casts bhavati asvins that is amplified by Urga's bhavati chandra. Unfortunately for the humans, this does nothing to Cloche. Thankfully, Praul Ajes steps in and casts bhavati surya and uses the previous bhavati chandra for amplification. With this combination, they manage to paralyze Cloche. The two of them gather all teachers, and Praul directs them to prepare a combined attack to kill Cloche.

(12) Under Praul's guidance, the magicians create multiple hoti brahma barriers, then Urga and others prepare several bhavati chandra amplifiers. Praul orders a magician to aim for Cloche's head. Just as the magician casts bhavati marut, Clophe appears to break Cloche's paralysis and take the hit himself, getting his arm sliced off in the process.

The magicians attempt to use bhavati varuna on Clophe to freeze him, but this spell only serves to strengthen him. Cloche prepares a transcendental, but Airi Yui arrives and seals it. Clophe gets distracted by Airi and leaves Cloche on her own at the academy.

(15) When Agni tells a dying Brilith that he will only give her her life back if she has a reason to live, Praul is one of the few people Brilith could differentiate, but couldn't recognize, as she combed through her memories in search for a reason to live.

(20) When the attack is over, Urga asks Praul if he found his children. He affirms this, but is unsure with what to do with them. He asks Urga how the rescue operations are going, to which she replies has been completed.

Season 2

Chapter 13: Lost

(5) Praul arrived late to an important meeting at the Temple of Fire in Atera, where he missed Agni's reveal. He already learned about Agni's summoning beforehand from Ruche Seiran, and wondered if he should study hereditary summoning talent.

Season 3

Chapter 48: Separation

(2) As Atera is under attack, Praul desperately tries to heal injured people. Urga III warns him to save his magic. When some debris falls, Haas Lehn appears to protect the group and he offers assistance.

(21) After the attacks subside, Praul is overlooking the evacuation of students from the academy. He learns his children are missing and goes out into the ruins of the city to search for them, accompanied by Haas.
