Cythonnite sect was a group of Krytonians who worshipped the deity Cythonna and the resistance movement who fought against Voice of Rao/Brainiac and his followers.
Biography
Cythonnite sect was established sometime before the events of Krypton. Besides of worshipping Kryptonian goddess Cythonna, they were also formed as a resistance movement to fight against a tyranny and decadence in Krypton.
When Seg-El escaped from the Black Zero base, he returned once again to collect some materials for his injury, but he also found a prisoner named Raika. After releasing, she led him through underground ice tunnels. They met a group of strangers who did not speak the same language as them, but they recognised one word: El. They were taken to the lair of Cythonna where the leader Anireh presided. After Seg-El talked about helping Raika, Anireh also offered to help him heal his wounds. Raika revealed to Seg that the House of El fought her clan long ago. Because of the enmity they held for the family, Seg was not allowed to get out from them. Seg was able to manipulate Raika by saying that the House of El was looking for him. Convinced, Raika helped him to escape and gave him oxygen mask and communications device.[1]
When Seg, Lyta-Zod and General Zod (the future son of Seg-El) attempted to find a weapon to destroy Brainiac in underground tunnels, they found a Superman sigil. Using their blood, they opened the door which protected the weapon named Doomsday. The trio encountered the Cythonnites who knew the secret of that weapon, which was created by El and Zod 1000 cycles ago. While knowing that it will be used against Brainiac, they kept it in underground because they could not destroy it. Zod desperately wanted it and armed conflict started. Cythonnites soon retreated from this place.[2]
Later on, Seg and Raika informed Cythonnites about Dru's second attempt to take his weapon again, prompting them to remove it. Junra and others noticed that the barrier field on the capsule was damaged, fearing that Doomsday might awaken. As Brainiac attempted to "bottle" Kandor, Raika and Junra took the weapon to destroy their enemy.[3]
Following the defeat of Brainiac by Seg and subsequent rise to power of General Zod, the Cythonnite sect was presumably scattered or destroyed by Doomsday. One member Raika was captured and interrogated from their captors to question her about Doomsday weapon, which was missing from its vault.[4]
