Career
2021–2022: H1-KEY
On November 30, 2021, Sitala was officially announced as the fourth and final member of GLG's upcoming girl group.[1] The group made their debut on January 5, 2022 with the single album "Athletic Girl".[2]
On May 25, 2022, GLG announced Sitala's departure from the group due to personal reasons.[3]
Personal life
Controversy
Following her member announcement, Sitala faced online backlash due to her family's political background and involvement in the 2013–2014 Thai political crisis, with Thai K-pop fans demanding her removal from the group. Her late father, actor-filmmaker Sarunyoo Wongkrachang, was a royalist and supporter of Thailand's military dictatorship and also produced a propaganda movie for them. The release of Sitala's self-written profile made matters worse as it stated her father as her role model.[4]
On December 8, 2021, GLG released a statement regarding the matter, stating that they had been very cautious on the backlash and had to consider the history, political, economical and social context and background of Thailand in order to understand the issue. After reviewing matters related to Sitala, GLG concluded that she cannot be held accountable on "the basis of her father's past decisions and actions that were beyond her responsibility". GLG emphasized that Sitala’s decision to list her father as a role model was based on his role as a parental figure, not upon his political views and actions. It was also announced that group's lineup would not be changed and that Sitala is currently reflecting.[5] However, despite these statements from the company, Sitala would end up withdrawing from H1-KEY on her own accord on May 25, 2022.[6]
