Lee Youngyu (이영유) is a South Korean actress and trainee. She is former member of the kids girl group 7Princess and a former member of the cancelled girl group Seasoning.
She is also known for being a contestant in the competitive reality television shows, Idol School and Kookmin Singer.
Career
2003–2005: Acting debut and 7Princess
In 2003, Youngyu debuted as a child actress in the 2003 drama 남과 여 - 속세를 떠납시다 which aired on SBS.
Youngyu debuted as an idol at the age of 5 in the kids girl group 7Princess on November 25, 2004 with the release of their debut studio album, Winter... Spring, Summer, Autumn. She was a first generation member and remained until the second generation before taking her leave from the kids group in 2005. Following her departure, Youngyu continued to work as a child actress for over a decade. During this time Youngyu came to be regarded as one of the best child actresses of the mid to late 2000s.
2008: Solo debut single "Lovely"
In between working roles as an actress, Youngyu got to release her first and only digital single, "Lovely", which was released on December 5, 2008.[1]
2017–2021: Idol School, Kookmin Singer and Seasoning
In July 2017, Youngyu appeared as an contestant in the reality competitive reality show, Idol School. She was eliminated from the show in Episode 4 with her final rank being 32th place.[2]
On March 4, 2018, 7Princess had a one-off reunion to be featured on season 2 of Two Yoo Project Sugar Man, which featured Youngyu along with Oh Soyoung, Hwang Jiwoo, Hwang Sehee, Kim Sungryung, Kwon Goeun and Park Yurim.[3][4]
Since 2018, Youngyu has had no roles in any dramas or films, suggesting a retirement or a break from acting. However, she had been posting videos of her dancing in studios, which hinted that she is currently a trainee under an unrevealed company.[5][6] On August 10, 2020, Youngyu officially confirmed on an Instagram live that she is preparing to debut in a four-member girl group. During the live, she also revealed that the girl group's name will contain 'ㅇㄴㅌㅈ'.[7] On May 10, 2021, Youngyu revealed the identities of her fellow members through a dance video, which showed herself, Park Jinhee, Oh Sumin, and Kim Sohyun.[8]
In October 2021, Youngyu along with Jinhee, Sumin and Sohyun appeared as group contestants on the competitive reality show, Kookmin Singer. Through their entry to the show, it was revealed that the four girls are members of the upcoming girl group Seasoning under DANA Entertainment. Together, they were eventually eliminated but finished within the 'Top 111' ranks (ranks after 40 for individuals were not assigned).[citation needed]
In a YouTube video uploaded by Youngyu in late 2021, she revealed that the debut plans for Seasoning had been cancelled, thus the girl group disbanded.[citation needed]
