BGH4

BGH4 (비지에이치포) is a four-member girl group. They originally made their debut on September 8, 2006 with the studio album Memories of Him under Berry Good Entertainment. They disbanded sometime in early 2008, however they reformed as a girl group 14 years later to release the digital single "Shining Beautifully Dark" on September 3, 2022.

Their group name BGH4 is an abbreviation of "big great / beautiful great" combined with the hangul initial h (ㅎ) from their stage names and '4' meaning the four members.[1]

History

2005–2008: Pre-debut, debut with Memories of Him

BGH4 was formed in 2005 by Berry Good Entertainment with members Haesun (Heesun), Hyena (Misty), Rahee (Euiju) and Eunhye (Bora) whowere recruited through auditions in 2003.[1] While pre-debut, they formed a temporary group with Berry Good Entertainment's other girl group, Gavy NJ, to become the project girl group H7美人. As H7美人, they released one special single album, "Birth", on June 9, 2006.[2]

A few months later, on September 8, 2006, BGH4 officially made their debut with the release of their first and only studio album, Memories of Him featuring lead songs "Please…" and "Power of Love" which received music videos.[3] Whilst the side songs "4H's" and "Everything" were promoted as solo songs for members Rahee (Euiju) and Hyena (Misty) respectively.[1]

On February 7, 2007, they released their first single album, "A For You".[4]

It wasn't until over a year later that BGH4 would release their second and final single album, "Missing You", on September 4, 2008.[5]

Despite the new release and the popularity of the girl group, BGH4 disbanded in late 2008.

2008: Disbandment, aftermath

Following BGH4's disbandment, a year later, member Eunhye (Bora) became one half of the female duo Ab Avenue in 2009. She made her debut in the female duo on November 30, 2009 with the digital single, "Third Winter". She later left the duo in 2010 and was replaced by MiO.[6] On July 27, 2014, she released her first solo EP "It's Okay To Cry".

Meanwhile, member Hyena (Misty) remained under Berry Good Entertainment and was later added to their pre-existing girl group Gavy NJ in 2009. She debuted with them on September 24, 2009 with the release of the mini album Heartbreak Hotel, which was released as the first part (Side A) of their fourth full album. The second part (Side B), Sunflower, was released three months later on January 21, 2010. She withdrew from Gavy NJ in 2012. The timeline of her circumstances are uncertain after leaving the girl group, but it is known that she graduated from the Department of Practical Music of International University of Korea and later went onto become a Practical Music professor at Baekseok Arts University.

Member Haesun (Heesun) who already had a career history as a music professor prior to becoming an idol decided to resume her teaching career. Since 2009, she has worked as a professor for Keimyung College University, Hanyang Women's University, Chung Cheong University and most recently Sejong University.[7] Nonetheless, since 2016, she occasionally released original music throughout the years as a singer; her debut digital single "사라지지마" was released on March 25, 2016.[8]

Only the circumstances of member Rahui (Euiju) are entirely unknown between 2008 and 2022.

2022: Reformation

Sometime in 2022, BGH4 reformed to release the digital single "Shining Beautifully Dark" on September 3, 2022.[9][10][11][12]
