Early Life

Not much had been revealed of Cecily's early life prior to her becoming a Priest of the Axis Order in devout worship of Aqua, though it was noted that afterwards she had been preaching at child followers of the Eris Order in Arcanletia to the point their parents sent them elsewhere.^[1]

Journey to Axel Arc

Some days after spending all her money on a load of limited grape-flavoured Gelatinous Slime that she had to sustain herself with, Cecily noticed Mitsurugi at the doors of the Axis main cathedral hoping to recruit a healer into his party for the purpose of defeating the Devil King. Upon identifying his Gram as a precious cursed sword that indicated his prowess and wealth, she tried to make him treat her to a meal. As the dismayed Mitsurugi revealed how Soketto had divined about his need to protect a Priest of the Axis Order, Cecily fervently proceeded to woo him so she could live in luxury, and ended up scaring the Swordmaster off.^[2] Despite Mitsurugi eventually giving Cecily something solid to eat for the next few days, she was left starving following his departure, thus she went to the local Eris Church and tricked the unfriendly Eris Priests with her tears, before suddenly making off with a sack of bread supposed to be for handing to the needy.^[1]

Cecily got cornered by those two Eris Priests some days later for defacing the portraits of Eris at their church, so she screamed and feigned being assaulted, which attracted the attention of Megumin as she came to her "rescue". Using the lovely loli as a distraction, Cecily slipped away and sought out a policewoman, to whom she reported that the Eris Priests were harassing a young girl. Cecily subsequently returned with the policewoman, then as the anxious Eris Priests were being questioned, she grabbed Megumin and escaped.^[3]

Although she failed to persuade Megumin into signing up for the Axis Order, Cecily still convinced the starving loli girl to the Axis main cathedral for food, where the ploy to forcibly convert her through offering her a meal also failed.^[4] While washing dishes with Zesta at the kitchen some hours subsequent, Cecily who anticipated bathing with Megumin was reminded by her superior of her rotation to clean the distribution system for hot springs water that night, so she took out her sack of limited Gelatinous Slime powder, which she planned to trade some of in exchange for Zesta taking over her cleaning duties, and merrily ran off following his approval.^[5] Cecily proceeded to harass Megumin at the baths and attempt crawling into her bed, but stayed at the cathedral while Megumin went into town with Zesta the following day, though she also ignored the complaints from inns all over the city about the abnormalities with their hot springs. She later joined the mob of Axis followers blurting out Zesta's perverted deeds and harassing the female knight in charge of arresting him for conspiring treason, before agreeing how nothing significant would change even with him gone.^[4]

Drinking herself into a stupor to celebrate Zesta's arrest and waking late the next morning as a result, Cecily enlisted Megumin and Yunyun's help on petitioning votes for the next head of the order as well as obstructing other candidates, in the process thwarting another candidate's attempt at using her panties to buy votes for himself instead of her. She treated some Gelatinous Slime to the exhausted Crimson Demons afterwards, and then accompanied them to inns complaining about their hot springs water turning into grape-flavoured Gelatinous Slime, much to her delight. Subsequently arriving at the distribution system where hot springs water running down from the main spring in the mountains are circulated, Cecily became elated at the water replaced by her favourite snack, before getting disappointed because the policemen who retrieved a sack of Gelatinous Slime powder from the facility prohibited her from drinking the evidence. When the three of them afterwards ran into Zesta as he was being released from the police station, Cecily changed her tune into claiming how she believed in his innocence all along, and accordingly tried to bribe Megumin and Yunyun with Gelatinous Slime powder.^[6]

At the appearance of Arnes, who the Crimson Demons explained was after Chomusuke, and her subsequent unmasking as a Demon, Cecily joined Zesta in accusing her for the incident with the hot springs, then proceeded to accompany him and other Axis followers into fanatically hunting after the baffled Arnes.^[7] Following them chasing off the Demon, at nightfall Cecily shared the order's hot springs with Megumin in the small baths that were Blasted out, prompting Megumin to create a bigger bath for them with Explosion. The next day as Megumin and Yunyun prepared boarding the caravan to Axel, Cecily gifted Megumin a packet of Axis conversion forms, which were immediately rejected.^[6]

Several days later, Cecily was shocked to find her whole sack of Gelatinous Slime gone, and grieved over her hunch that Arnes had used her Gelatinous Slime for sabotaging the hot springs (where in the anime, she already knew about Zesta being the one who poured the powder in)^[7]. At that moment, she was notified by Zesta about a divine telepathy from Aqua herself, in which the goddess asked her follower to borrow her money. Upon Zesta identifying the message's source to be Axel and deciding to send somebody over for investigating, Cecily in accordance with Lady Aqua's teachings gratefully volunteered.^[8]

Irregular of Axel Arc

Arriving at Axel the day when the hunting squadron assembled by the Guild was defeated by Host and prompted the male adventurers to look around for Aqua, Cecily took the disaster as a sign that she needed to use the order's funds for hiring people who could find her goddess and vanquish the Demon. Since the Axis followers in the city numbered pitifully few, she found her way into the inn room Megumin was staying in to seek the beloved loli girl's aid as well as sniff the bedsheets, and managed to secure her assistance with a 10 million eris reward. Heading into the city at dusk in search of Aqua, Cecily correctly guessed that she could be found at the public baths and bars, though Megumin dismissed it as nonsense and brought Cecily to the local Eris church. The Axis Priest proceeded to loathingly attempt breaking inside as the Eris Priest within did her best to keep her out, then while Megumin went to speak to the Eris Priest in her stead, Cecily threw a stone to break the church window, resulting in her and Megumin getting chased off by the enraged Eris Priest. She was next brought to the nearby orphanage despite wanting to enter a bar where Aqua was performing at, and shamelessly guzzled the charity meals provided. Finally searching the public cemetery after nightfall, Cecily purposefully scared Megumin into screaming, before Chomusuke noticed Wiz standing behind them, at which the girls panicked and fled. Despite failing to find Aqua, Cecily still drank late into the night at their inn's bar, so she let Megumin head to the Guild alone the next day while she got some sleep.^[9]

Cecily subsequent to waking up went to the Eris church for the purpose of throwing stones, where she pestered them into telling her the details regarding how the party of Rex who they had been treating had been defeated by Host. She returned to the inn shortly before Megumin came to her asking for an advance on the 10 million eris of rewards, so Cecily happily hugged Megumin as she handed over a bag that actually contained rocks. After giving an irate Megumin the real bag with money, Cecily revisited the Eris church to Heal Rex's party in a snub to the Eris Order, then went back to the inn just as Megumin asked her to take care of Chomusuke. Running into a Megumin hurrying to where Yunyun and Rex's party were battling Host the following morning, Cecily Blessed Megumin and saw her off.^[10]

A day later, Cecily, who realised that she needed to learn more powerful Priest Skills in order to sound cooler as well as vie for leading the Axis Order's branch at Axel, bid farewell to Megumin and Yunyun, before heading out on an adventuring journey.^[10]

Beginner Adventurer Arc

Cecily at some point returned to Axel, and got wind about Mitsurugi's Gram being sold to a general store, thus she lay in wait for him to come buying back the cursed sword. Upon Dust purchasing Gram instead, Cecily confronted him in an attempt to make him hand it over for free so she could use it as leverage to force Mitsurugi into pampering her for life, and failing that tried to trick him into signing a conversion form though to no avail. She soon ran off to trick Eris followers for money without luck, then running back to Dust some time later offered to date him, only to discover in dismay about the sword already sold back to Mitsurugi. Cecily eventually hurried to prepare marriage certificates when Dust claimed that Mitsurugi was looking for her to join his party.^[11]

Mid Summer Arc

Eventually making it as the Priest appointed to manage the Axis Order's branch in Axel, she settled within rundown building serving as their local church, from where the Priest continued her mission of keeping an eye out for their descended goddess. On one morning when Cecily ordered a shipment of Gelatinous Slime powder delivered to the church, she invited Megumin over and tempted her to try out the snack despite the substance now being banned by authorities. Next surprised when Kazuma and Lady Aqua herself furiously burst in accusing her of corrupting their Arch Wizard with contraband, the Priest quickly agreed to turn herself in and accept the penalty involving an hour of lecturing from the police, before Aqua citing the Axis Order's teachings forgave her sin.^[12]

Accordingly both shocked and delighted at seeing Megumin cutely smiling at a tsudere Kazuma, Cecily introduced herself to the newcomers as well as pledged servitude to her goddess, but was dragged to a corner by Kazuma who questioned if the Axis Order knew about Aqua's true identity, something that Cecily denied. Next hearing Kazuma bring up the subject of the upcoming Eris Appreciation Festival, the devout Axis Priest furiously declared war on the Eris followers, and called for Megumin's help in vanquishing them, until Kazuma clarified that he intended to hold an "Aqua Appreciation Festival". Cecily thus accompanied him and Megumin to the shopping district for negotiations, and accused its chairman of craving her body upon him refusing her demands, until Megumin led the Priest away so that Kazuma could perform the talks instead.^[12]

Spending the upcoming days alongside her goddess and fellow followers in preparing for the Aqua Appreciation Festival that Kazuma successfully received permission for, Cecily despite wanting to sell Gelatinous Slime still opened a stall for scooping "goldfishes" on the first day of the festivals at Aqua's direction. The lack of the said fish however prompted her to use the tadpoles of Giant Toads instead, which brought her into an argument with patrolling policemen over the distribution of those dangerous creatures. The Priest eventually had to give up when Kazuma arrived to scold her, and so released the Giant Toad tadpoles into the lake that used to be inhabited by the Kowloon Hydra. She consequently went to serve customers at the food stall opened by Kazuma, all the while sneakily taking bites out of the cooked Cabbages as well as using Axis conversion forms for wrapping the food. Then on the following day, at her goddess' command Cecily alongside other followers operated many extraordinary stalls in the style of those from a distant land, while also reigning in their order's antics in order to make the customers delighted.^[13]

Elated by their stupendous earnings at the close of the third day, the Priest went celebrating with her goddess and other followers, before they on the next day cited their heating up of the festivities and high earnings as reasons for having the city hold only the Aqua Appreciation Festival next year,^[14] though prior to Aqua submitting the proposal to Darkness, Cecily secretly added another demand for lifting the ban on Gelatinous Slime, one which her goddess later approved of when Kazuma angrily confronted them at the Axis church. Further adding another demand about forcing the women attending all festival stalls to wear swimsuits in an attempt to placate him, the Priest rebuked Kazuma when he attempted to drag Aqua back, in addition to hinting about the goddess' idea of making more money through something called a "pyramid scheme", which was put into action on the last day of the festival.^[15]

Following the conclusion of the festival, Cecily also participated in the closing party held by the festival committee, where she fraternised with the young female Eris followers whom she enticed into drunkenness.^[16]

Late Summer Arc

Thanks to Kazuma generously donating enough money to the Axis Order for getting their church refurbished, the grateful Priest wrote him a letter of gratitude that named him an honourary member of the order.^[17] Cecily afterwards began concentrating her efforts on creating Gelatinous Slime that don't choke people in hopes of circumventing the ban on her favourite substance. However, she soon noticed signs of somebody sneaking into the church to eat the food from the fridge and the vegetable patch, so she filed a job request with the Guild to have somebody solve the case, in addition to asking for a female who could staff the order's stall for selling the new Gelatinous Slime powder.^[18]

One day hearing a visitor to the church break the pottery that she had planted behind the door for the purpose of blackmailing them, the Priest became overjoyed to see not only her beloved Megumin, but also the pure loli-girl Illis who was accompanying alongside Yunyun, though Cecily's attempt to have Illis address her with intimate references was thwarted by Megumin.^[18]

The Priest next offered Megumin to try out some powder of her new Gelatinous Slime species, yet her choice of words instead caused Yunyun and Illis to angrily draw weapons on her for possessing a banned substance until she explained what it was all about. Later scolding the pair and engaging in a discussion with the others over the renaming of the substance, Cecily led them to the stall where she promoted the Gelatinous Slime through suggestive vocabulary while having the pretty young girls hand the powder to customers, a strategy that let them quickly sell out all of the stock, though once faced with the innocent Illis thanking her for the happy experience, the Priest couldn't help feeling guilty.^[18]

Hoping to treat the young girls to Gelatinous Slime back at the church only to discover the food thief having struck again, Cecily clarified to Illis and Yunyun that the oil stains on the kitchen floor and male underwear in the freezer which they had discovered were unrelated to the incident. Accordingly leading Megumin and the others to interrogate possible suspects, the Priest went to accuse a butcher whom she had spread rumours against, and pondered hitting on a handsome policeman when threatened with a lawsuit, before attempting to take in Illis as a little sister when she apologised in her place. Then heading off to stomp on the door of the Eris church, Cecily upon hearing the Eris Priest deny her accusations began insulting her and Eris about their flat breasts, starting a fight which Megumin subsequently broke up.^[18]

Stopped by Yunyun and Illis from further graffiting at the Eris church, back at the Axis church Cecily was devastated to discover the Gelatinous Slime she had put into the refrigerator also disappearing, though it turned out that the snack was still alive and had dragged itself to the vegetable patch for feeding on the harvest. Paying a deaf ear to Megumin and Yunyun's vituperations as well as requests for apologies to the people she had wrongfully accused, Cecily tried to convert Illis to the Axis Order. When Claire later burst in to take Illis back home, the Priest smelling the retainer to be bearing the same forbidden sexual desire as she does attempted to convert her too into the tolerant Axis faith, though the ensuing departure of the pair left Cecily disappointed. Anyhow asked by Megumin regarding ways for her bandit band to make money, Cecily who already had plans to sell products related to "pretty girls" agreed, on the condition that she was allowed to join the bandit band.^[18]

The Priest wasted no time moving into the gorgeous mansion rented by the band as their base, and reported to her superiors at Arcanletia about joining a bandit band where the members other than herself were all loli-girls, which resulted in a flurry of applications for band membership from the other followers ready to aid their endeavour. She then prompted at their ensuing assembly for Megumin to give her a title in the band, and offered to be a consultant for her to discuss romance troubles with, before opening herself up to take on the role of a spouse. After the topic went back to them recruiting new members, Cecily vied for handsome blonde men or somebody who will pamper her for life, but soon fell asleep until Megumin came to tell her about the band retiring for the day.^[19]

Cecily found it peculiar at the band's next assembly when she didn't feel attracted to the new member Chris despite her being a pretty girl, until Megumin revealed the Thief to be an Eris follower, at which the Axis Priest immediately displayed her hostility. Asked by Megumin on the following morning about what she wants, Cecily responded with offers to marry the loli-girl only to be refused, through the Axis Priest quickly cheered up before inquiring about the Crimson Demon's romance troubles. Next Cecily laid out a plan for identifying and striking at crooked nobles, starting with the wealthy House Dustiness for being vile followers of Eris, though her choice was opposed by Megumin.^[20]

When Chris afterwards went to the mansion base, the Priest began preaching the Axis faith in an attempt to convert her. Then during the ensuing assembly Cecily was reminded by Megumin that the bandit band was established for supporting the Silver Haired-Thief Brigade instead of letting her be surrounded by pretty girls, then named House Bellheim as a crooked noble household eligible to be raided because they refused donating to the Axis Order, yet Megumin vetoed the idea. And at the assembly on the following day, Cecily heard that House Donnelly whose forest manor Megumin decided to raid had potentially been using a Divine Item for randomly summoning monsters, giving her an inspiration where she summons powerful monsters to wreck havoc before having Axis followers save the day as a way of attracting converts.^[20]

Accompanying the band to check out the manor only to be surprised at seeing a horde of monsters laying siege to it, the Axis Priest suggested waiting till the defending guards are about to be overwhelmed before jumping to the rescue so they can have the leverage for demanding them converting to the Axis Order, then became impressed at Chris' wicked idea that expanded it to requesting the defenders hand over the Divine Item as well. She anyhow pledged support upon Megumin proclaiming their intervention, and helped Heal the wounded in the aftermath of the monsters' eradication. Accordingly shocked by the ungrateful response of Karen to their rescue, Cecily eventually backed down when Chris told them to leave the matter for the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade to deal with.^[20]

At some point during the period, the Priest coerced Chris into helping her preach the Axis Order around Axel through guilt-baiting the Eris follower over her patron deity's advent causing trouble for the local Axis followers. After Megumin carrying Chomusuke passed by, Cecily asked the others to perform an advertising gig on the streets, in which Chris acting as the evil Eris follower attacks Chomusuke despite Megumin's pleading, before Cecily shows up to save the cat and convert Megumin, though her plan of converting the onlookers failed because they all knew who Megumin and Chris were.^[21]
