Historical Information

Gongsun Du (150-204), style name: Shengji (升濟), was born in Xiangping county, Liaodong commandery in Northeast China. Nothing was known of his early career or what titles he held prior. His only mention in history is during Dong Zhuo's rise to power and his self-appointment as Regent of the Central government. Dong Zhuo was looking to gain more territory for the empire, and as such issued orders to Gongsun Du to attack the Kingdom of Gorguryeo (Present-day Korea).

Gongsun Du successfully defeated the Goguryeo forces and also seized control of Daifang and Lelang commanderies established earlier during the Han Dynasty. Xu Rong, who was an old friend of Gongsun Du and also from Xiangping, Liaodong reccomended the latter to Dong Zhuo to become the Adminstrator of Liaodong. Subsequently, Dong Zhuo's government folllowed through and appointed Du as Liaodong's adminstrator which was the start of his clan's territorial power on the ridges of the Empire. Later, Gongsun Muo and Zhang Pi were sent by Gongsun Du to conquer more territory near Southern Korea. During the Campaign against Dong Zhuo, Gongsun Du did not join the coalition nor did he actively resist them in any way, instead he remained in his territory while consolidating his own power. After his death in 204, his son Gongsun Kang succeeded him as Liaodong's administrator.
